John Oliver Cason, age 69, of Cedarville, Michigan, died Saturday, February 6, 2010 at Mackinac Straits Hospital Long Term Care in St. Ignace, Michigan. He was born January 29, 1941 in Star City, Arkansas, the son of Charles Cornelius and Letha (Safley) Cason.
When John was a child, his family moved to Conway, Iowa and he graduated from Clearfield, Iowa High School. John married Judith Ann Stephens in Diagonal, Iowa on September 13, 1959 and they moved to Cedarville in May 1961. In May 2003, John retired from Michigan Limestone Operations in Cedarville after completing 40 years of employment there.
John was a member of the First Union Church in Cedarville where he served on the church board and was a member of the choir. John served on the Port Dolomite Credit Union Board for many years. He was also inspector for the Les Cheneaux Islands Association for 35 years. John was a member of the Experimental Aviation Chapter #560 and enjoyed anything connected with airplanes. He enjoyed his family, hunting, aviation, music and traveling. |
John is survived by his wife, Judith; one daughter, Joy (Wayne) Davis of Creston, Iowa; two sons, Joel (Sandi) Cason of Forsyth, Georgia, and Jeffrey (Leanne) Cason of Cedarville; and six grandchildren, Ben (Keri) Davis, Anne Davis (fiance, Kaj Johnson-O'Mara), John Cason, Storm Cason, Isabella Cason, and Lilianna Cason. Also surviving are three brothers, Dwayne (Carol) Cason of Clearfield, Jim (Cris) Cason of Milton, Florida, and Frank Cason of Macon, Missouri; two sisters, Nancy (Pat) Germain of Gatesville, Texas, and Christine (Dick) Fuchs of The Woodlands, Texas; and step-brother, Steven Kleckner of Afton, Iowa.
John was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Charles Cason Jr., and one sister, Irma (Leroy) Strasser. |
Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 9 from 5 P.M. to 8 P.M. at Reamer Galer Funeral Home, 24549 S. M-129 in Pickford, Michigan, and Wednesday, February 10 from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 P.M. at First Union Church in Cedarville.
Funeral services will be held at Wednesday, February 10 at 2:00 P.M. at First Union Church in Cedarville with Reverend Jeffrey Meyers conducting the service.
Burial will be in the spring in Cedar Cemetery in Cedarville.
