Richard Hart “Ric” Vernagus, age 58, of Pickford, Michigan, died Sunday, January 31, 2010 at his home. He was born January 13, 1952 in Howell, Michigan.
Ric's family moved to Pickford when he was six years old. While growing up he helped his father at Ted's Country Store. Ric graduated from Pickford High School in 1970. Ric worked in the lower peninsula and then at the Limestone Quarry in Cedarville for seven years before purchasing his father's store and operating it for many years. For the past several years, he has worked for Sadler-Rodenroth Motors in Sault Ste. Marie.
Ric was a man of strong faith who attended several area churches and Christian men's groups regularly.
Ric was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting with friends in Menominee County. He also enjoyed gardening.

Ric is survived by his mother and step-father, Edith (Hart) and William Celestino of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario; one brother, Theodore Herbert (Carmen) Vernagus of Mesa, Arizona; step-brothers, Ted (Billie) Olmstead of Bowling Green, Kentucky and Alan Jay (Donna) Olmstead of Greenville, South Carolina; step-sisters, Lorrie Skinner (Jay Smith) of Grand Ledge, Michigan and Sherry Skinner of Lansing, Michigan; special aunt, Leota Williams; and many nieces and nephews.
Ric was preceded in death by his father, Theodore E. Vernagus and step-mother, Donna Vernagus. |
A memorial service will be held Monday, February 8 at 11:00 A.M. at Reamer Galer Funeral Home, 24549 S. M-129 in Pickford. Friends may gather at the funeral home beginning at 10:00 A.M.
Inurnment will be in Oaklawn Chapel Gardens in Bruce Township, Michigan.
